Tiffen is known as a producer of filters.

The Tiffen Company was founded in 1938 by Nat Tiffen (d. 2006), with brothers, Leo and Sol. It has acquired other companies and is the distributor of photographic filters, digital camera accessories, Steadicam, Kalimar, Davis & Sanford tripods, Domke bags, Saunders Easels, Saunders/LPL Enlargers, Silver Pixel Press and Kodak Books, Stroboframe flash brackets, Kodak Wratten and Kodak Polymar filter products and other Kodak branded accessories, Peak Loupes, and a number of other accessory lines.

Awards

  • 1984, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences - Technical Achievement Award for the production of high-quality, durable, laminated color filters for motion picture photography
  • 1992, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences - Technical Achievement Award for the production of the Ultra Contrast Filter Series for motion picture photography
  • 1999, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences - Scientific and Engineering award for the production of high-quality, durable, laminated color filters for motion picture photography
  • 1998, Prime Time Emmy for Engineering Excellence

The Steadicam technology has been awarded an Oscar, an Emmy, the Deluxe Outstanding Technical Achievement Award of the BANFF Television Festival, the Star 2005 TV Technology award, the 2006 Cherry Pickers Award, the 2006 CES Innovations Award and many more.
