Optical Co., Ltd. is pleased to introduce the µ[mju:] ZOOM 140 compact
camera. The new top-of-the-line µ[mju:] Series model features a 38-140
mm 3.7x zoom lens and an elegant design. In addition to the black
version, a champagne-gold edition is available.
The latest release retains the µ[mju:] Series' streamlined contours and
sliding lens barrier- keys to its sophisticated style as well as easy
portability. And the high-powered 38-140 zoom lens brings another
dimension to leisure photography.
Thoroughgoing innovations
Even with its 38-140 mm 3.7x zooming range, the µ[mju:] ZOOM 140 is
small and convenient. In their pursuit of a body that is only 46 mm
thick, the Olympus engineers adopted a four-stage lens barrel and
developed a new optical system for the viewfinder. A number of
innovations have gone into the electrical circuitry, and the
high-powered flash ensures sufficient illumination at the 140 mm
telephoto setting.
Not only does the high-performance aspherical glass lens deliver
superior resolution, but the lens design contributes to the compact,
lightweight design. Along with minimizing the size of the lens group,
the engineers have slimmed down the lens when it is retracted.
Reflecting these comprehensive refinements, the µ[mju:] ZOOM 140
measures only 120 (W) x 65.5 (H) x 46 (D) mm, and it weighs 255 g
without a battery.
The new model's increased zooming capability also led to the first
Passive Multi Autofocus system in a µ[mju:] Series camera. Employing a
phase-differential method, the AF system is the ideal solution for a
high zooming ratio.
Versatility and simplicity
The µ[mju:] ZOOM 140's trim lines hold an array of other leading-edge
technologies including weatherproofing and six versatile flash modes.
All this performance is packaged in the streamlined contours that are a
hallmark of the µ[mju:] Series' elegant design.
Main Features
High-performance 38-140 mm 3.7X zoom lens
The µ[mju:] ZOOM 140 has a 38-140 mm 3.7X zoom lens. With its
high-performance aspherical glass lens and hybrid aspherical lens
elements, it delivers outstanding resolution and contributes to the
compact, lightweight design.
Smaller, lighter and thinner
A broad array of technologies account for the new model's trim
dimensions and low weight. The aspherical glass lens elements are a key
to the compact, lightweight lens system, while the four-stage lens
barrel has slimmed down the body. The roof prism in the viewfinder's
optical system also plays a part in the improved space efficiency.
Sophisticated good looks
With its streamlined contours, the design carries on the µ[mju:] Series tradition of elegant beauty.
High-powered flash
The power of the flash system has been raised to ensure sufficient
intensity at the 140 mm telephoto setting without increased battery
consumption. Three-dimensional simulation was used to optimize the
flash's internal architecture, while the new drive mechanism that
extends the flash coverage. For natural-looking results, the µ[mju:]
ZOOM 140 features a Soft Flash system as well.
Passive Multi AF system
The µ[mju:] ZOOM 140 is the first model in the series to use a Passive
Multi Autofocus system. With its phase-differential method, the AF
system is the ideal solution for a camera with a high zooming ratio.
Worry-free weatherproofing
The µ[mju:] ZOOM 140's weatherproofing protects against sand and dust as
well as a sudden shower or splashing. Meeting the IEC grade 4 standards
for "splash-proof," it offers extra reassurance on a rainy day, at a
beach or on a ski slope.
Versatile flash modes
Six modes make it easy to take great flash pictures. There is also a
Soft Flash system that automatically adjusts the intensity of the
illumination according to the distance from the subject.
Auto
To ensure that the illumination is appropriate, the flash fires automatically in low light or backlighting.
Red-Eye Reducing
The red-eye effect --- a common problem with flash portraits --- is
reduced by a series of pre-flashes emitted before the main flash fires.
Off
The flash does not fire in this mode, making it the right choice when
flash photography is prohibited or the photographer wants to capture the
mood of the moment.
Fill-in
The flash fires with every shot. Even when there are such complications
as sidelighting or backlighting, Fill-in flash produces the balanced
illumination essential to a lifelike image.
Night Scene
The intensity of the flash is determined by the foreground, while the
length of the exposure is set according to the background. Slowing the
shutter speed to as long as 4 sec., this mode captures both the subject
in front and the background scenery.
Red-Eye Reducing Night Scene
This mode reduces the redeye effect in pictures taken in the Night Scene
mode. Except for the series of pre-flashes,it is identical to the Night
Scene mode.
Other features
Wide and Tele modes
For striking close-ups, the distance to the subject can be as close as 60 cm in the Wide mode and 90 cm in the Tele mode.
Spot mode AE
This mode ensures accurate focusing and exposure for the main subject, regardless of the surrounding light.
Focus Lock
This convenient feature keeps the subject in sharp focus while the photographer adjusts the composition.
Built-in dioptric correction
Dioptric correction of -2 to +1 per meter (m-1)is built in to compensate for any eyesight problems.
Optional remote control
With the optional remote control, it is easy to trigger the shutter from as far as 5 m.
