The No. 1 Seneca Jr. was one of Senecas characteristic strut folding cameras. It is one of the compact rollfilm camera constructions of ingenious simplicity like the contemporary much smaller British Ensignette. It was easily unfoldable in spite of a missing complicated self-erection mechanism. The front door of the camera's body was just a cover for the lens standard. After having opened the door the standard could be pulled out of the body so that the bellows got unfolded and the standard latched in its working position. The equipment in the lens standard was astounding:

  • two brilliant finders, one for vertical and one for horizontal shots,
  • and even two collapsible pillars, one for vertical camera position and one for horizontal position
  • a self-cocking leaf shutter with shutter release button an even choice of three speeds plus B and T mode
  • a shifter to set the aperture of the eight-blade diaphragm to f11, f22, or f32
  • non-focusable fine simple lens and/or shutter made by Ilex

The inner side of the front door shows an inscription which refers to patents from 1915, 1916, and 1917. The camera can be used with type No. 120 film rolls which are equal to the Eastman Vulcan type No. 210 film which were recommended by Seneca. In the removable camera back is a red window.
