Minolta XD-5

The Minolta XD-5 was the cheaper version of the XD-cameras. Some people say that it has several plastic parts which just look like metal parts. It has the same outer appearance as the XD-7, except the missing viewfinder ocular shuttering lever. Both models offer the choice of two automatic exposure modes: shutterspeed preferred or aperture preferred. In shutter preferred mode an aperture scale is shown in the viewfinder instead of the meter's shutterspeed scale. But the XD-5 shows does not show the actual selected speed and selected aperture in addition to that scale, as does the XD-7. For new preselections of shutter speed or aperture the XD-7 user can keep his eye on the viewfinder.

• Metering: through-the-lens (TTL) measuring by a photo diode at the back of the pentaprism controls automatic exposure
• Shutter speeds: 1 - 1/1000 sec. (metal lamellae shutter)
• Films: 35mm film with speeds from 12 to 3200 ASA
• Viewfinder: pentaprism viewfinder showing 94%
• Lens: Minolta MD-Rokkor lenses (SR-bayonet lenses with additional lever for automatic aperture control)

Of course nearly all SR-bayonet lenses can be used with the XD-5, but the older SR-lenses and MC-lenses only without shutter preferred mode.
