Max Berek (* Aug. 16th 1886 in Ratibor; † Oct. 15th 1949) was a mineralogist, physicist, mechanician and mathematician who worked as chief developer of Leitz's special microscopes when Oskar Barnack developed the Leica. Berek became involved as the developer of the 20 earliest Leica lenses. One of his designs was the Tessar-type Leitz Elmar 50/3.5 lens. Berek became professor of the University of Marburg/Germany.
