HDR - High Dynamic Range imaging - is processing images to a higher dynamic range of luminances, increasing the difference between light and dark, either to get a better representation of the original scene or to give more impact to the image. In digital photography, this is sometimes done by separating different areas (such as light and dark), and processing them differently, or by combining more than one image - each providing alternative exposures for parts of the picture.
