The originally French, and now Italian, company Gitzo produced a wide range of tripods. From the 1960s onwards the pattern of tripods was uniform, based on a structure of "series' with increasing tube diameter with a set type of names.

From 1970 onwards the tripods were painted in the distinctive “Noir Decor” hammered finish.
